newborn session tips

Before session:

·      If you are breastfeeding, avoid eating spicy foods as it could upset your baby’s belly and make posing difficult.

·      Try to keep your newborn awake for as long as possible prior to arriving to your shoot, even if they are fussy. Keeping them awake will ensure that we have a sleepy baby to take all those adorable poses!

·      Plan to feed your newborn upon arrival to your session, Again, happy baby = awesome pictures.

·      Your hands will be in the photos, make sure to keep your nails natural or light-colored to keep the focus on your newborn in your photos.

What to bring:

·      Diapers

·      Wipes / burp cloths

·      Pacifier (hospital ones (blue round ones) are the best because they don’t leave a mark from sucking on baby’s face)

·      If bottle feeding, bring extra as babies tend to eat more during these sessions.

·      Because studio is hot, please dress yourself in cool, comfortable clothes.

·      If you plan to be in pictures, bring extra sets of clothes for yourself in case an accident or two occurs.

·      Sessions could last up to 4 hours, so please bring snacks and drinks.

·      Cell phones are allowed during session (provides you entertainment during the 2-4 hours you are here!).  I know it’s hard not to snap a few of your own shots while in session, just be aware the flash from your camera interferes with the lighting which can affect your pictures.

·      I have a variety of props, hats, bows etc to chose from for your shoot. Feel free to bring your own from home as well. Some examples would be a hats, knitted blankets, family heirlooms, Etsy items, mementos from your childhood etc.

·      Payment for session. Cash or check is accepted.

During session:

·      If you are doing family pictures, I do family pictures first, then sibling photos, then newborn photos. This order ensures that I get great shots with happy siblings at the beginning of the session vs. after the full newborn session.

·      If your older children stay for the duration of the shoot, I do have toys and a tv in a nearby room for their entertainment. Feel free to bring snacks, iPads etc for your older children to keep them busy during the session.

Suggestions on what to wear for your pictures:

Mom:

·      Tank tops or tight-fitted shirts, in solid neutral colors

·      Neutral colored dresses

Dad:

·      Tight-fitted t-shirts, in solid neutral colors/black

·      Short sleeves preferred but not necessary

Siblings:

·      Shirts with words on them such as ‘’I’m a big sister” may not work well in photos because letters might be cut off due to poses.

·      Longer dresses are good for girls

·      Jeans and a solid-colored shirt are good for boys

Newborns:

·      I have a variety of wraps, hats, bows, tie-backs, bloomers and knitted outfits for your baby.

·      Etsy is a very good site for newborn tie-backs, hats, outfits, props etc for your newborn, if you prefer to purchase items of your own for your session.
